Thierry Boutsen, (Belgian, 53) lives in Monte Carlo. He owes his fame mainly to 10 years racing in a Formula 1, with 164 starts including 10 Monaco Grand Prix. He was not only known in racing for his speed though: the trained mechanical engineer was also appreciated for his comprehensive technical feeling and understanding for machinery, making him a much sought-after test and development driver.
He started his racing career in 1978 by winning the Benelux Formula Ford Championship, with 15 victories in 18 races. After a very successful time in Formula 3 and Formula 2, he moved up to Formula 1 and collected 3 Grand Prix victories at the wheels of its Williams Renault. He also gained experience and success in endurance racing, winning the famous Daytona 24 Hours in 1985, the Group C Endurance World Championship in 1986, being also the 1998 US GT Champion.
His hobby has always been... Aviation, his success in Formula 1 allowed him to purchase his first airplane in 1986. As Pilot in Command of his Piper Cheyenne II, then a Lear 35A and later a Cessna Citation, he flew himself to the racetracks. And when his colleagues Heinz Harald Frentzen, Guy Ligier, Keke Rosberg or Mikka Hakkinen asked him to find a similar aircraft for themselves, the idea of creating his brokerage firm for corporate aircraft was born! He launched it together with his wife Daniela in 1997.
It is in Y2000, when Thierry stopped his racing career, that Boutsen Aviation SAM really took off. Today, with its perfect knowledge of the world market and its vast experience of international transactions, the Monegasque firm has proudly sold and delivered 198 aircraft and helicopters!
Thanks to Thierry Boutsen's engineering background, the company is also well recognized for its technical expertise, a major advantage when it comes to the choosing an aircraft, whether it is a new or a used 5 seat Citation, a Gulfstream or an Airbus Corporate Jet.
